Friends in high places

What a fabulous morning! One of my former students is an extern at the St Louis Zoo,  and so we went to visit her at work. She studied biology at UNF so she could go on to grad school to study sea turtles.  She works at the herpetarium. She gave us a behind the scenes tour.  We started by petting the tortoises! So cool. Then we went inside to check out the basement, with lots more turtles,  snakes,  and even an animal from the fourth order of reptiles. ..a New Zealand Tuatara, which looks like a lizard,  but isn't,  and has a third eye on the top of its head that is covered with skin, but can sense light. We saw where they store the antivenom,  breed reptiles, and make lunch. Thank you a Rachel for a very memorable day!
