After 8 hours of driving, we stopped in Rock Springs, WY. Built on a crossroad of two highways and a train (both freight and passenger), it now seems to be almost all hotels. It is a weird mix of touristy and isolated. We ate at a brew pub with WiFi, since we don't have smartphone Internet out here, and haven't for days. Phil asked what was going on in town. An international festival! Rock Springs has 56 countries represented in its population of 23000. There was music (yodeling, I kid you not), food, and ice cream. We didn't see a lot of evidence of the countries aside from flags, but people all seemed to know each other, and they stayed even though it was 65 degrees and starting to rain.
We found a room for only $100, which was a miracle since the town was full up two days ago when we last had WiFi, and today the cheapest other room within 100 miles was $265.
Horses seem to be the thing. There is a wild horse corral and our trouble booking a room was because of the high school rodeo finals this weekend.
